“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”
— Maya Angelou
Have you noticed that people that seem to cope easily with life’s challenges seem to have a very good attitude? Why is that? How do they possess this good attitude? Is this something that we, too, can seek and/or acquire?
I believe that attitude, which requires awareness, is a daily (if not hourly) decision. For each moment, each encounter, each incident, we can choose to have a positive or negative attitude. Now, during a typical week, I can expect to have experiences, which are challenging, frustrating, etc … So, what’s the best way for me to react to these? What helps me is to determine whether it is within my control. If it is, then I try to change it. If it is not, then (typically) I try to change my attitude, which is not always easy, but possible.
What steps do you take to keep a positive attitude?
