Down Time

“To do great work a man must be very idle as well as very industrious.”

— Samuel Butler

I realize that some of us live in highly competitive regions or communities.  Therefore it is expected of us to keep up the pace and produce.  I think we tend to forget that we are not machines and therefore need ‘down time’.  Yes, I’ve said it, ‘down time’.  I know it’s not an attractive phrase and probably not very respected in highly competitive circles.  However, if we are expected to be productive and to think with open minds, I believe it’s very important to have and sometimes even schedule brief ‘down times’.  Sometimes, simply stepping away from a challenge for a brief period of time can provide with the solution or answer that we’ve been looking for.

How do you view ‘down time’?
